What to Wear:

Women/Girls
Emphasizing modesty, Spanish
dance attire should not distract the audience with "sexiness".
Rather, the attire is assembled to be a complement to the dancer's
poise, femininity, strength and technique while allowing the
sophisticated choreography to be facilitated.
-
Wear a calf or ankle length, fluid skirt
that is fitted at the waist but has lots of volume at the hem. It can be solid colored or patterned with stripes, flowers or dots.
Loose-fitting (wide-legged) fluid pants are also suitable. Tight
yoga pants and leggings are only suitable when worn under
a skirt.
-
-
A solid-colored, leotard (bras are
a must) with tank-style, short or long sleeves. A close-fitting knit top is also
suitable. (No spaghetti straps/excessive
cleavage, bare midriffs or halter tops, please. These styles mal-function during
the expressive, powerful dance postures)
-
-
Hair pulled back to expose face and
neck. We encourage you to accessorize “Spanish-style” with festive
jewelry, a flower in your hair and a hip scarf/shawl, if you wish.
-
-
A supportive shoe (Mary Jane, ankle
boot or
lace-up oxford) with a hard sole and a hard heel, 1 - 2 ˝” high. (no rubber soles, please) A character shoe is a good
first choice until you acquire authentic Flamenco shoes. Flamenco
shoes are recommended as they are designed to deliver the best sound
and comfort while executing the footwork techniques.

Men/Boys
-
A solid-colored fitted shirt
with short or long sleeves. A close- fitting tee shirt is also
suitable.
-
-
A dark pair of trousers that
allow ease of movement. (no blue jeans, please)
-
-
We encourage you to accessorize
“Spanish-style” with a vest over your shirt and a kerchief, if
you wish.
-
-
A supportive shoe (loafer, boot or
lace-up oxford) with a hard sole and a hard heel, 1 - 1 3/4” high. (no rubber soles, please) A dress boot or cowboy boot
is a good first choice until you acquire authentic Flamenco boots.
